World Disability Billiards and Snooker (WDBS) and Snooker & Billiards Ireland (SBI) have today announced that the Irish Disability Snooker Open will remain on the WDBS calendar for at least a further three years from 2026.

Held at the SBI HQ in Carlow since 2023, the tournament has quickly become established as one of the most popular events on the WDBS calendar, with a record 48 players having competed in the most recent edition last November.

Following the success of its initial three-year cycle, SBI has successfully secured additional funding for the next three years, ensuring that the event will remain a fixture on the global WDBS ranking circuit.

Nigel Mawer QPM, WDBS Chairman

Nigel Mawer, WDBS Chairman said: “We are pleased to be able to confirm that the Irish Open will remain on the WDBS calendar for the next three years.

“Held at a fantastic facility and well supported by both Irish and international players alike, the tournament has become well established on the circuit since 2023.

“I would like to thank Dylan and the team at SBI, who I know work incredibly hard to ensure that the event runs as smoothly as possible for all our players and officials each year, for their continued support of disability snooker.

Dylan Rees chalks his cue

Dylan Rees, SBI Vice Chairman said: “On behalf of SBI I am delighted that the Irish Open will remain on the WDBS calendar for the next three years.

“Since my first WDBS competition in 2019 as a player, I have experienced first-hand how special these competitions are and the unique camaraderie among players from all different backgrounds and disabilities.

“I would like to thank Sport Ireland for their continued backing of disability snooker, without which this event would not be possible, as well as my colleagues at SBI for their support.

“For Irish snooker, to host a world event of this nature is also a great honour and helps demonstrates our commitment to inclusivity and providing opportunities for all across the country. I look forward to seeing everyone again later this year.
