The Shanghai Billiards Association (SHBA) recently co-organised a snooker experience event in support of World Spinal Cord Injury Day.
Since 2016, the International Spinal Cord Association (ISCoS) has celebrated “SCI Day” on 5 September each year.
This year, on Tuesday 3 September, the SHBA and the Shanghai Association of the Disabled organised a snooker experience event called ‘Show Passion and Surpass Yourself’ at the Puwei Billiard Hall for participants with spinal cord injuries to take part in the sport.
Jin Jing, part-time vice president of the Shanghai Disabled Persons’ Federation and chairman of the Shanghai Association of the Disabled, attended the event, along with relevant leaders from the Shanghai Putuo District Sports Bureau, Shanghai Association of the Disabled, Shanghai Billiards Association.
Over 50 participants, alongside their families and volunteers, attended the event which also featured talks by Chen Lu, the Deputy Director of the Coaching Committee of SHBA and intermediate coach of China Billiards Association, and World Disability Billiards and Snooker (WDBS) Director Da Chen.
Ms. Wang, who participated in the event, said: “I feel that snooker is a sport that suits us very well. It is not intense and is fun.”
Da, WDBS Director, said: “I hope to promote Para Snooker in China so that more people can understand and experience this sport. This will not only help people with disabilities to strengthen their bodies and boost their confidence, but also help promote the development of sports for people with disabilities and reflect the level of civilization in our city.”
