It has today been announced that the 2025 World Abilitysport Games scheduled to take place in Indonesia this September have been cancelled.
A statement on the official World Abilitysport website today (6 June) states:
“It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of the 2025 World Abilitysport Games due to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia (11-21 September 2025).
“Despite our very best efforts to establish regular and open lines of communication, the lack of critical information and necessary assurances towards the preparations of the Games, made it increasingly clear that World Abilitysport could no longer proceed with the staging of this event.
“Additionally, a change in government and policy in Indonesia had made it unviable to continue within the intended timeframe.
“The World Abilitysport team share in the disappointment and frustration caused to our members but ultimately, it was recognised that the organisation has a responsibility to our membership, their athletes, and our partner IFs to withdraw from events for which we do not have sufficient assurances as to its viability.”
Following the successful first inclusion of disability snooker at the 2023 Games in Thailand, which saw gold medals won across five different classification groups incorporating wheelchair and ambulant disabilities, it was previously announced that snooker would once again be included at this year’s Games.
Both WDBS and World Abilitysport remain committed to working together and are hopeful of future collaboration moving forwards.
Further information with regards to the 2025/26 WDBS Tour calendar of events will be announced via our website and social media channels as soon as possible.
