We are today pleased to be able to provide a further update regarding our plans for the World Disability Billiards and Snooker Tour in 2022, including our first provisional event date of the year.

Following the successful return to competition for all classification groups at the Stockport Open and Hull Open tournaments held in late 2021, the WDBS Board has carried out a detailed review of both events, alongside wider strategic discussions regarding the structure of the Tour.

Having now completed this process, we can confirm our initial provisional 2022 calendar as follows:

Provisional Calendar (ALL Groups 1-8):

  • UK Disability Snooker Championship – Barratts, Northampton (25-27 March)
  • Belgian Open – The Trickshot, Belgium (May TBC)
  • Welsh Open* – Redz, Cwmbran, Wales (August TBC)
  • Stockport Open – Hazel Grove Snooker Club (October TBC)

*To be played using the 6-red format, players from all classification groups drawn together.

It is our aim that where possible, all future events will be open to all eight classification groups, instead of the traditional separation of Groups 1-6 and 7-8, or other combinations of groups.

Players will continue to compete within their own classification groups, except for the Welsh Open, which as in previous years will be an open draw across all groups.

It is our intention that that the Champion of Champions will return during the second half of the 2022/2023 season, with an all-new format aimed at further increasing the prestige of the event.

PLEASE NOTE: Entry for the first event in March is NOT yet open and will be available in the New Year.

International Expansion

Alongside our established calendar of UK competitions, we also remain firmly committed to the further expansion of the tour to other regions across the world, with discussions actively taking place with other countries.

Increased international representation on the WDBS Tour is central to our long-term aspirations of restoring snooker to the Paralympics and other recognised multisport competitions. We are therefore delighted to be able to see the return of the Belgian Open to our calendar once again and hope to be able to announce further competitions outside of the UK in due course.

Further Information

Further information including entry details for the UK Championship and confirmed dates for the remaining events will be announced in the New Year.

Until then, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our players a happy holiday period and we look forward to seeing you all in 2022!
